Lack of Interest = Lack of Power

What makes a good piece of writing? I say, you need to have an interest in what you are writing. In a truly perfect world, everyone would be able to write what they (he/she/they) would like to. The pieces of writing that are most memorable are usually speeches from writing that come from activists writing about what they believe in or authors turning what they have always dreamed about writing into reality. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character” (King, “I Have A Dream”). This is an extremely famous quote, not only because of the power behind the movement Dr. King was fighting for, but for the eloquence of it and the speech as a whole. King was able to deliver such a speech, and several other similar speeches in his lifetime, due to his true passion for the cause he was fighting for. This is truly not the case in several cases, due to the fact that passion and interest are not always present.
Non fiction is found difficult in several scenarios, because of the several restrictions in how one is able to write and what one can write about. This piece in particular, proposed for an EN300 class, one can imagine, I did not receive in huge smiles and open arms. The limits on the kind of language we  it even more challenging. When a certain level of interest is present, the flow of ideas and engaging questions is more easily accomplished. Viewpoints are more eagerly shared, and the willingness to educate is higher. Despite this, in certain situations, writers have to be pushed out of their comfort zone to become more expressive and well-rounded writers. So find your interests, and go write! Or even more exciting, challenge yourself, and go write!
